Green Grads

What’s the best gutter?

I think we can all agree, cleaning gutters is the worst: It’s time consuming, dangerous, and it makes your hands smell terrible! Some homeowners find they need to clear their eavestroughs twice, even three times a year to avoid problems

Learn the best time to clean your gutters

The question I’m always being asked is ‘What is the best gutter for me?’ I hate to burst your bubble but: there is no perfect gutter system.

Some types of covered gutter can seem like a good idea but will still fill up making them even harder to clean. There are so many different products on the market it can make your head spin! Some companies promise a solution to all your gutter woes, but do they deliver?

I always recommend you suit your choice of gutter system to the type of greenery around the house.

If you have a deciduous tree in your yard, note when its leaves finish falling. Choose a gutter system designed to keep big leaves out.

Do you live near the ocean? Do birds drop debris like shells, bones or nuts into your gutters causing clogs? We offer drain guards that can stop these ‘gifts’ from blocking the flow of water down the downspouts.

Do you live in an area with many tall evergreens? Pine needles can act as Kryptonite for even the most well-engineered gutter set ups. Consider investing in metal gutter guards and a quality leaf-blower (if you want to do the job yourself); but remember if you don’t sweep or clean off the covers regularly, needles and debris can slip through, causing an internal clog, giving you a major headache years later.

Gutter systems can be as individual as the occupants of your home. Give us a call if you need help with these tough questions, we’re always happy to help.

Get your head out of the gutter so you can focus on what makes you happy :)
